YAPA is very excited to announce this year's
Youth Conference 2008:
Participation into Action!
30 September, 1 & 2 October 2008 (school holidays)
Y Hotel Sydney Hyde Park (Sydney CBD)
(non-residential)
for NSW young people aged 12 to 17 years
From changing the world to changing your school's uniforms, from influencing your local council to getting the government to listen, from putting on a band night to rocking the entire country: if you're young with something to say or do, get the skills to really make it happen!
new: conference program
All participants will get a copy of the conference program at Registration at the beginning of the conference. If you want a sneak preview, download the program summary (412KB PDF).
discuss and learn
- surveys – find out what people in your area think
- fundraising - get the cash you need
- youth councils: what works and what doesn’t?
- local media: get some "good" media attention for youth issues
- group dynamics – the glue that holds your group together
- getting started on lobbying
- working with your local council
- using new media for change
- government nuts and bolts: Ministers, MPs and minders: what they are & how they fit together
- looking after your group: maintain momentum and motivation
is it about politics???
You don’t have to be very political to attend - you don’t even have to be interested in politics! (Nobody will try to join you up to a political party!)
But if you’ve always wanted to have your say, and want to make sure that people listen, this is where you will get the skills to make that happen.
young people
The conference is open to all NSW young people aged 12-17 - so you can come if you are at least 12 but under 18 on 30 September. (Sorry – no exceptions.)
You can come by yourself or with a group of young people.
You can also come with an accompanying adult (such as a youth worker) or by yourself. There will be some separate sessions for the adults to discuss ways of supporting youth participation and action. Adults don't have to pay.
Y Hotel Sydney Hyde Park is an unlicensed hotel and the conference is a drug and alcohol free event.
