Shopping Centre Security Guards & Young People:
Resource Manual & Self-Paced Learning Package

Resource Manual and Self-Paced Learning Package for Shopping Centre Security Guards large file: 1.5 MB PDF

A valuable resource to shopping centre security guards and youth workers alike.

Developed by Garner Clancey, Sally Doran and Michael Huggett. Having worked on the NSW Youth Shopping Centre Protocol Project, Garner and Sally realized the need to enhance the training available to shopping centre security guards, to help them better understand and to respond to young people. The lack of training for security guards in part contributes to some of the tensions between young people and security guards attached to shopping centres.

The resource manual and self-paced learning package has been designed both as a tool for security guards and youth workers. The package has a number of exercises (with answers provided in the back), that individual security guards can work through. The comprehensive package can also help youth workers who might be invited to help train local shopping centre security guards. The information provided can be easily adapted for use in face-to-face training, although the self-paced style also allows guards from companies who might not be able to afford (money or time) to access the information.

The package has been developed with funds from the Western Sydney Area Assistance Scheme. If you would like to find out more about the package, please do not hesitate to contact Garner Clancey on 0425 231 825 or garner@hn.ozemail.com.au
