YOUth Represent Resource Kit 1.3MB PDF
Are you looking to engage and support young people to take action on issues and topics that are important to them?
Presenting, YOUth Represent, a model for youth participation that seeks to:
- Engage and empower young people from marginalised backgrounds
- Capitalise on the skills, experience and expertise of young people to mentor and support other young people
- Develop and enhance skills, knowledge and expertise in young people so that they may contribute to their communities.
Whatever your title - young person, youth worker, teacher, government worker, creative, activist - this resource is for you.
A bit of background…
YOUth Represent was a youth participation project designed and delivered by YAPA in 2010. The project was funded under the Youth Development and Support Program (YDSP), a Federal Government initiative aimed and supporting not for profit organisations to deliver projects for young people.
This resource is intended to provide you with ideas, inspiration and tools to assist you in designing and delivering a youth participation project. You are invited to replicate or adapt this model, or simply to use the ideas and principles as starting points for developing a completely different model.
This resource provides an overview of the project structure and aims; the barriers that came up; how these barriers were addressed; and successful strategies that increased the value and success of the project. Resource appendices include an induction program, participant start up kit and workshop outlines, which could be used as templates or adapted for a similar program.
Happy reading, and may you find the knowledge and inspiration you need to support and engage young people to make a difference to their worlds.
